Tips for Dancers
~ Always warm up first! Stretching
helps prevent injuries.
~ There's an old joke: A tourist asks
a New Yorker, "How do you get to
Carnegie Hall?" The New Yorker
says "Practice!" That means, if you
want to be on the big stage, you
have to work hard!
~ Practice your technique and your
routines in between class times.
You'll be a better dancer and class
time will be more fun.
~ Strengthen and control your core.
Dancing is more than moving your
feet. You need strong muscles in
your abdomen, back, chest and
shoulders. A strong core will give
you much prettier lines, more
graceful movements, better balance
and greater speed. Ask your teacher
what exercises you should do.
~ Listen to the music! Is it sad,
happy, joyful, excited, frightened?
Portray the emotions of the music in
your dancing. When your
movements are in harmony with the
spirit of the music, it all flows
together and you create a new
piece of art.
